What We Do

The Calgary Sexual Health Centre offers a variety of counselling and education services for people of all ages.

We provide information, support and referrals by telephone to individuals who prefer to call or who are unable to access our services in person. All phone enquiries can be made anonymously and will be kept confidential. We can answer questions on a variety of topics in the area of sexual and reproductive health. If we do not have the information you require, we will refer to an agency that can help.

Comprehensive Sexuality Education

School Programs.
Our Sexuality Education program works within the Alberta Learning Curriculum, and has been a recommended resource of the Calgary Board of Education since 1975.


Presentation Topics

The following descriptions represent possible topics that we can include in our programs, including presentations as part of the CALM (Career and Life Management) Program in schools:

Community Outreach

At the Calgary Sexual Health Centre, we don’t believe that education is just about learning the facts. We believe that it is about making meaning of information through discussion about relationships – relationship to the self, to others, to the media and to societal norms. Our team of professional educators are available to work with:

• People with physical, cognitive and/or developmental disabilities
• Seniors
• Parents
• Professionals

Wise Guyz – Relationship and Healthy Sexuality Program for Young Men

Traditionally, our society has not been pro-active in providing sexual health services and supports to young men.   As a result, many young men experience fear, embarrassment and stigma around accessing sexual health services and accurate information. 

Sexual health programs have not focused on young men, contributing to their discomfort in addressing issues of sexuality.  Men may be reluctant to admit when they need help or are unsure about something, contributing to unhealthy sexual risk taking and confusion about how to communicate and set boundaries around their sexuality.   The demands of masculinity can be significant stressors for young men.

As young men are half of the equation in sexual and reproductive health issues, it is important to develop and implement effective programs to reach them with messages of healthy sexuality.  To address this, we have developed a 10 week comprehensive relationship and sexuality program specifically designed and targeted towards a male audience.
